A look into my UX/UI work with
Hourglass Coffee
While working as a Lead Designer on this project I had the following responsibilities:
-
Creating logo and other icons
-
Prototyping
-
Animating live prototype of application
Problem
The problem our team was trying to solve when creating an application for Hourglass Coffee was one of interactivity. We wanted to do something novel, that would keep user engaged in both the app and the company. For this reason we added an Augmented Reality aspect to the rewards system we created. By doing this, we hoped to improve the user experience and show customers a new side to buying coffee.
Process
The concept we were going for with this brand was one built around being futuristic and timeless. For this reason I went with a clean and sophisticated, yet playful look. In order to provide the sharp aesthetic that was desired while also appealing to our target demographic (ages 13 - 30).
Product
Hourglass Coffee is a coffee shop chain that comes with a rewards app (the product) which allows users to discover "worlds" by scanning the icons on their mugs of coffee. The product stores user information such as order history and the "worlds" that they have unlocked allowing for users to be excited to continue to use the app for future purchases.
Post Analysis
This project was one that I was very proud of at the time. Both my team and I worked night and day to make the best product we could given the time constraints we had. Looking back, though, I would have changed the way I handled creating the final, high fidelity prototype. My team and I had spent a major portion of the time deciding the color palette and fonts for the app. As such, we were more pressed for time when assembling the final product than we thought we would have been. If I were to go back and do this again, I would definitely schedule the time allotted to each section of the project better.
